1. Worldwide problems:-
In the present century, the world is plagued with many problems. Somewhere there is the problem of famine and water scarcity, somewhere there is the problem of malnutrition, somewhere there is an atmosphere of unrest due to the conflict between the neighboring countries, but the biggest problem of all these problems is the problem of population. Not only India but other countries of the world are also plagued by the unlimited growth of population. India's population is 16 percent of the total population of the world. At the time of independence it was 33 crores but according to the census conducted in 2011, India's population is 121 crores. It has become a major problem in newly developed and developing countries
2. Population growth- a problem: -
When India became independent, the total population of our country was about 33 crores but today it has increased to more than 121 crores. Unemployment is increasing due to this unlimited growth of population. Industrial suburbs are being built on fertile land near cities. Farms and barns are decreasing. To provide more transport facilities, roads are being constructed, dams are being built, new industries and educational institutions are being set up. The country is spending immense money on all these. Inflation is also increasing due to this reason and environmental pollution is also increasing due to deforestation. Thus, the problem of population growth is at the root of all the other problems in our country at present.
3. Reasons for population growth: - 7
There are many reasons for population growth. Immediately after independence in our country, there was no control on population growth. At that time there were no means of family planning. Due to superstition and religious fanaticism, some people considered having children as a divine gift. People of the lower class used to think that having more children would lead to more earning members in the family but the biggest loss due to population growth is that the number of unemployed people is increasing. Crime is increasing in the society due to unemployment. Although schools, colleges, hospitals are being opened at government, non-government and private level, yet due to the heavy pressure of population, all these efforts are like a drop in the ocean.
4. Measures for Population Control:-
Seeing the rapid growth of population, the government has taken several steps. Initially, the means of family planning were spread, then male and female sterilization programs were started. The consciousness of family planning was awakened among the public. Voluntary ban has been imposed on having more than two children in government jobs. A law was made to stop the marriage of young men and women at an early age. Incentives were also given for family planning.
Apart from all this, there is a great need for public awareness to control population growth. Today, more activism is required from every person in the society, especially the youth, only then we will be able to realize the possibilities of happiness and prosperity.
5. Problem Solution and Conclusion:-
The economy of our country has been disturbed due to unlimited growth of population. Various development schemes are also not appearing beneficial. Only when every person without any religious distinction will give priority to family planning, then only population growth can be controlled. This control is necessary for the prosperity of our society and country.

1. विश्व व्यापी समस्याएँ :- वर्तमान शताब्दी में विश्व अनेक समस्याओं से आक्रान्त है। कहीं अकाल एवं जलाभाव की समस्या है, कहीं कुपोषण की समस्या है, तो कही पड़ोसी देशों के कलह से अशान्ति का वातावरण विद्यमान है, परन्तु इन सभी समस्याओं से प्रबल समस्या है, जनसंख्या की समस्या। जनसंख्या की असीमित वृद्धि से न केवल भारत अपितु घरा के अन्य देश भी आक्रान्त हैं। भारत की जनसंख्या विश्व की कुल जनसंख्या का 16 प्रतिशत है। आजादी समय यह 33 करोड़ थी किन्तु सन् 2011 में सम्पन्न जनगणना के अनुसार भारत की जनसंख्या 121 करोड़ है। नवविकसित एवं विकासशील देशों में तो यह प्रमुख समस्या बन गई है।
2. जनसंख्या वृद्धि-एक समस्या: - जब भारत स्वतंत्र हुआ तो उस समय हमारे देश की कुल जनसंख्या लगभग 33 करोड़ थी परन्तु आज यह 121 करोड़ से अधिक हो गई है। जनसंख्या की इस असीमित वृद्धि से बेरोजगारी बढ़ रही है। शहरों के समीप की उपजाऊ भूमि पर औद्योगिक उपनगर बस रहे हैं। खेत- खलिहान घट रहे हैं। अधिक यातायात की सुविधा उपलब्ध कराने के लिए सड़कों का निर्माण हो रहा है, बांध बनाए जा रहे हैं, नये उद्योग एवं शिक्षण संस्थान खड़े किये जा रहे हैं। इन सब पर देश का अपार धन व्यय हो रहा है। महँगाई भी इसी कारण बढ़ रही है तथा वन काटे जाने से पर्यावरण प्रदूषण भी इसी कारण बढ़ रहा है। इस प्रकार वर्तमान में हमारे देश में जितनी भी अन्य समस्याएँ हैं, उनके मूल में जनसंख्या वृद्धि की समस्या है।
3. जनसंख्या वृद्धि के कारण :- जनसंख्या वृद्धि के अनेक कारण हैं। हमारे देश में स्वतन्त्रता मिलने के तुरन्त बाद जनसंख्या वृद्धि पर कोई नियंत्रण नहीं था। उस समय परिवार नियोजन के साधन भी नहीं थे। अन्धविश्वास एवं धार्मिक कट्टरता के कारण कुछ लोग सन्तान पैदा करना ईश्वरीय देन मानते थे। निम्न वर्ग के लोग सोचते थे कि अधिक सन्तान होने से घर में अधिक कमाने वाले सदस्य हो जाएँगे लेकिन जनसंख्या वृद्धि से सबसे बड़ी हानि यह है कि यहाँ बेरोजगारों की भीड़ बढ़ती जा रही है। बेरोजगारी से समाज में अपराध बढ़ रहे है यद्यपि सरकारी और गैर सरकारी तथा निजी स्तर पर स्कूल, कॉलेज, अस्पताल खुल रहे है फिर भी जनसंख्या के भारी दबाव के कारण ये सारे प्रयास ऊँट के मुँह में जीरा ही है।
4. जनसंख्या नियंत्रण के उपाय :- जनसंख्या की तीव्रगति वृद्धि को देखकर सरकार ने अनेक कदम उठाये है। प्रारम्भ में परिवार नियोजन के साधनों का प्रसार किया गया, फिर पुरुष एवं स्त्री नसबन्दी कार्यक्रम प्रारम्भ किया। जनता में परिवार नियोजन की चेतना जाग्रत की गई। सरकारी नौकरियों में दो सन्तान से अधिक पर स्वैच्छिक प्रतिबंध लगाया गया है। कम उम्र में युवक-युवतियों के विवाह को रोकने का कानून बनाया गया। परिवार नियोजन के लिए प्रोत्साहन राशि भी दी गई।
इन सबके अलावा जनसंख्या वृद्धि पर नियंत्रण के लिए जन जागरुकता की गहरी आवश्यकता है। आज समाज के प्रत्येक व्यक्ति की विशेषकर युवाओं की, अधिक सक्रियता की आवश्यकता है तभी हम सुख समृद्धि की सम्भावनाओं को साकार कर सकेंगे।
5. समस्या समाधान एवं उपसंहार :- जनसंख्या की असीमित वृद्धि से हमारे देश की अर्थव्यवस्था गड़बड़ा गई है। विभिन्न विकास योजनाएँ भी लाभकारी नहीं दिखाई दे रही हैं। जब प्रत्येक व्यक्ति बिना किसी धार्मिक भेद के परिवार- नियोजन को प्राथमिकता देगा, तभी जनसंख्या वृद्धि पर अंकुश लग सकेगा। अपने समाज और देश की खुशहाली के लिए यह नियंत्रण जरूरी है।
